Education in general and S&T education in particular are important factors for the success of a country in terms of the level of economy and of democracy. Scientific literacy - together with math and reading literacy - has become a worldwide aim. However, surveys as TIMSS or PISA register a lack of interest in and a decrease in competences in S&T of students. Differences are, amongst others, detectable amongst students with different socio-economic background and between girls and boys.
Innovative S&T education contributes to support equity amongst all S&T learners and to raise the students’ interest in and the motivation towards S&T.
kidsINNscience investigated the transferability of innovation in S&T education and
- identified and promoted innovative approaches for teaching and learning science in a Scan of innovative practices,
- adapted and tested them for implementation in field trials in mainstream schools,
- evaluated the implementations in the field trials,
- and developed innovation strategies for S&T education in all participating countries.
